01 · ORIGIN
Pearls born from freshwater mussels.
Freshwater pearls are cultivated using mussels that live in lakes, rivers and similar waters as mother shells. In China, species such as the triangle sail mussel are used, and in Japan pearls have also been cultivated in Lake Biwa and Lake Kasumigaura.
The method of growing pearls by implanting a piece of tissue without a nucleus is widely used, but there are also freshwater pearls grown with a nucleus. The name "freshwater pearl" alone does not mean they are all the same in shape, size and structure.

Rounded pearls, long slender pearls, flat pearls, pearls with irregular outlines. Depending on the shape, the look can be crisp or playful.

03 · HOW TO CHOOSE
Choose the expression that suits you, rather than the name of the type.
When choosing, check the luster, surface condition and unity of color in addition to size and shape. For necklaces, also look at the length along your neckline and the arrangement of the pearls; for clip-on earrings and earrings, also look at the balance between left and right. This makes it easier to picture how they will look when worn.
